Marjorie Louise Poole

Marjorie L. Poole, 108, of Winnebago, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Heartland Senior Living Center (formally Parker Oaks Nursing Home). A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, May 18 at First Baptist Church of Winnebago with Rev. Daren Barnett presiding. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery of Winnebago. Marjorie was born on November 13, 1909 to Henry William Ritter and Louise Nagel Ritter at their farm home seven miles northwest of Winnebago. She spent her childhood years on the Ritter farm in the Basey Church area north of Winnebago. She graduated High School in Winnebago and then Teacher Training in Blue Earth under the tutelage of Marion Drake. She taught at the Woodland Country School north of Winnebago until her marriage. On June 17, 1931, she married Roger D. Poole and they farmed for several years before moving into Winnebago in 1938. Summer school and night classes allowed her to continue her education while resuming teaching at Woodland, then teaching 4th grade in the Huntley Public School. She completed her B.S. degree at, the then Mankato State College (MSC) in 1965. She continued teaching at Huntley Public School until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of the National and Minnesota Education Association.She enjoyed her gardens, vegetable and flower, and many hobbies, including Hardanger, knitting afghans for all her extended family members, and China Painting. Marjorie was a charter and active member of the Happy Gardeners Garden Club. She was active in her church, the First Baptist Church of Winnebago, singing in and directing the choir, as well as, participating on various committees, and meeting with and hosting many of the King’s Daughters activities.Marjorie is survived by her son, Ronald (Henrietta) Poole of Mankato, daughter-in-law, Jane Poole, also of Heartland Senior Living Home in Winnebago; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Debra) Poole of Mankato, Bridget (Daniel) Poole Padilla of Mankato, Becky Poole of Pasadena, CA, Kevin (Kim) Poole of Winnebago, Ranae (Steve) Schutt of Winnebago, Michael (Elaine) Poole of Shakopee, Susan (Dale) Folen of Golden Valley; and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; and eldest son, Jerry. Six of her siblings also preceded her in death: brothers, Carl (Lora) Ritter, Harold (Annie) Ritter and Lee (Morna) Ritter; and sisters, Kate (Ben) Miner, Ruth (Ray) Krause and Audrey (Ralph) Haller.
