Lois Dethloff

November 1, 1933 — March 4, 2023

Amboy

Lois Jean Dethloff was born to Richard and Olinda (Karau) Boesch on November 1, 1933, at the Madelia Hospital. Lois went to her forever home on March 4, 2023, just 47 days after her beloved husband of almost 70 years, Dick Dethloff, passed.

Lois grew up in Lewisville,Truman, and Amboy. She graduated from Amboy High School in 1951. On July 19, 1953, Lois married her high school sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Dethloff. Dick and Lois had one daughter, Kelly, on October 25, 1954.

After graduation and in the early years of marriage, Lois worked as a secretary for Boesch Insurance Agency in Amboy and the Dick Agency in Mankato. In 1970, Dick and Lois opened The Villager, a clothing and gift store for all ages, which was open for 25 years.

Lois loved reading, baking, and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She won many awards at the county and state fair for her baking. She loved watching birds, deer, and other wildlife at the farm with Dick. Lois was very active in Amboy community activities and Christmas Wonderland, helping design displays and playing Mrs. Claus. She also loved fashion and collecting vintage hats and clothing. For many years she put her talents to use helping to costume the plays for Amboy Community Theater and the Maple River Drama Department.

Lois spent her retired years volunteering for the church, making beautiful banners for the sanctuary, crafting, baking, and spending time with her daughter and family. Her Christian faith was very important to her, and she was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amboy.

Of all the things Lois did throughout her life, spending time with her husband and family was her favorite. From trips to Jekyll Island, GA, and the North Shore with Dick, to having her grandkids around her as much as possible, family was the most important thing in her life. She loved having the great-grandkids out to the farm to bake and play and she never failed to make their favorite dessert for their birthdays.

Lois is survived by her daughter Kelly Reuter, Grandchildren KC (Debbie) Reuter, Shelby (Dave) Kirchner, Allegra (Chad) Davey and great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Brooke, Reagan, Christian and Quinn Reuter, Brennan and Kennedy Kirchner and Loralie Davey. She is also survived by her siblings/in-laws Jim and Marion Boesch, Judy Gollwitzer, Kathy and Garland Hendricksen, and Tom and Linda Boesch.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dick Dethloff, her parents, son-in-law Karl Reuter, and siblings/in-laws Herky and Arlys Halverson, Merlyn and Jeanne Boesch, and Herman Gollwitzer.

A joint funeral service for Dick and Lois will be held at 10am on March 18, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amboy with visitation one hour prior to the service.
