Janice Arlene Sonnabend, age 80 of Amboy, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Mapleton Community Home. Memorial services will be held at 11:30am on Friday, October 27, 2023 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. Visitation will be held from 9-11am, prior to the service. Private family burial will take place in Basey Cemetery.

Janice was born on May 14, 1943 in the Madelia Hospital to Melvin “Max” and Clarice (Sandvig) Stordahl. She attended and graduated from Winnebago school. Janice then went on to attend a few years at the Mankato Business School. On January 23, 1965, Janice married the love of her life, Dennis Dean Sonnabend at St. John’s Willow Creek Lutheran Church. She was always very active in her church.

Janice enjoyed traveling and camping in their motor home, loved to sew and quilt. She was an excellent seamstress. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and birdwatching. Janice often volunteered and enjoyed her time doing so. She also loved watching her grandchildren grow up.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dennis; son, Dean (Tammy) of Vernon Center; daughter, Kari (John) Healy of Mapleton; grandchildren, Brittany (Tyler) Miller, Joshua (Paula) Sonnabend, Rachel Sonnabend, Carson Healy, and Eli Healy; great grandchildren, Olivia, Madison and Ella Miller; and her sisters, Beverly (Les) Pasbrig, Judy (Tom) Staloch, and Joan (Jeff) Slama.

She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Dean Stordahl; and brother, Donald Stordahl.

Memorial donations are preferred to the Mapleton Community Home and the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota - North Dakota Chapter.
