Charles William King Jr.

September 18, 1943 — June 20, 2015

CHARLES WILLIAM KING, JR, age 71, of Winnebago, died Saturday, June 20, 2015, at United Hospital District. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winnebago, with Fr. Peter Klein officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Spencer Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave SE in Winnebago, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Charles was born September 18, 1943, in Winnebago, the son of Charles and Masil (Woltz) King. He graduated from Winnebago High School in 1961. After graduating he joined the Marines and was enlisted until 1964 when he was honorably discharged. Following the Marines, Charles had various jobs. He worked construction for several years. Charles was a member of the Winnebago American Legion. He served as the local commander as well as the county commander. In August of 1982 Charles married Fay Bellig at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, MN. They were blessed with two children; Katelyn (Katie) and Andrea. Shortly after that time Charles opened Winnebago Small Engine Repair. There he also had a greenhouse where he enjoyed using his green thumb to sell plants in the summer months. After closing the business, Charles's final job was working security for Rochester Armored Car for seven years. He retired in the fall of 2010. Charles remained very busy in his retirement being Mr. Fix-It. He was always working on a project whether it was at home or for his daughters. Charles also continued to use his green thumb. He loved to spend time working on his garden, every year he spent hours planting seeds inside to replant them outside in the large garden. He loved to make things grow. His latest additions to his garden projects are several berries and fruit trees. He always ended up with excessive amounts of vegetables which he would share with friends and neighbors. Charles also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Charles loved his family unconditionally and cherished every second he spent with them. He especially loved the time he spent with his grandson Maverick, whom he preferred to call George. His family will always remember him as a kind, loving, and generous person who would do anything or fix anything for them. Charles enjoyed some friendly teasing or smart remark to put a smile on friends or families' faces. You could always count on him for some kind of wise crack to brighten your day. He is survived by his wife, Fay King of Winnebago, daughter, Katelyn “Katie” King of Waseca, daughter, Andrea (Brady) Malmanger of Fairmont, brother, Cletus (Vicki) King of Lonsdale, MN, brother, Gary King of Winnebago, sister, Marlene Johnson of Hastings, grandson, Maverick Malmanger of Fairmont. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard King, and brother-in-law, Richard Johnson.
