Paul G. Penney, age 88, of Winnebago, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at United Hospital in Blue Earth. Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 11:00 AM, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Winnebago, with Father Peter Klein officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth at a later date. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at the church. Spencer- Owen Funeral Home of Winnebago is assisting the family with the arrangements. Web tributes may be left at www.spencerowen.com Paul was born March 9, 1926, in Winnebago, the son of George and Helen (Froelich) Penney. He was raised in Winnebago where he graduated from Winnebago High School in 1944. He soon entered the U.S. Army during WWII and served overseas. At the end of the war he returned to Winnebago where he began working at Roerig Hardware. He was soon married to Maxine L. Nelson on August 19, 1947 in Winnebago. Paul began farming NW of Winnebago just over the Martin Co. Line. He farmed for many years and later worked for Loveall Construction as well. Paul was a member of the Winnebago American Legion and was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting and collecting antiques and old railroad memoribilia, especially railroad lanters. Paul is survived by his wife, Maxine Penney of Winnebago, his sons: Doug (Jan) Penney of Prior Lake, Jeff (Mary) Penney of Eden Prairie, Greg (Connie) Penney of Colorado Springs, CO, Steve (Carol) Penney of Highland Village, TX, his daughter, Pam Holm of Winnebago, his sisters, LaVonne Maertens of Montgomery, AL, and Rosemary (Stan) Riggs of Alamo, Texas, 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Francis Penney, a grandson, Ryan Penney and one infant great granddaughter- Kylie Marie Thoren.
