ALBERT PAUL “Al” WAGNER, age 88, of Winnebago, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 1:00 PM, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Winnebago, with Fr. Peter Schuster officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation time will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at Spencer Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave SE in Winnebago. Web tributes may be left at www.spencerowen.com Al was born June 21, 1925, in Claremont, MN, the son of Oscar & Mary (Claeys) Wagner. He attended Granada Country School #28 and later graduated from Winnebago High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater as a Watertender 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Capricornus. He returned from service and began working for Fairmont Ford. He married his sweetheart, Barbara Ann Roe on June 7, 1952 in Winnebago; from this union they were blessed with four children. The couple lived in Truman where Al drove a parts truck for Park Motor Co. (now Fairmont Ford) and farmed. Al continued to work for Park Motor during the winter months & farmed until they moved to Winnebago in 1964. Al continued to farm for many years and worked with Vets Glass during the winter. He retired from farming in 1995, but continued to do spring and fall farm work with WFS and for Gary Engelby. He had also been a trusted funeral service assistant with Spencer-Owen Funeral Home for the last 22 years. He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was active as a Eucharistic minister, usher and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Al loved hunting, especially black powder deer hunting, and fishing in Canada with family and friends. Al is survived by his daughters, Paula (Steven) Wood of Lake Elmo, Nona (Tom) Larson of Fairmont, his sons, Loren Wagner (fiancée Tammy Diersen) of Fairmont, and Darin (Eva) Wagner of Fairmont. Also surviving are his brother, Victor (Arlys) Wagner of Moorhead, MN, mother-in-law, Helen Roe of Winnebago, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Barbara in 1994 and his father-in-law, Wilbur Roe.
