A proud American, Fred served his country as a Marine, transmitting Morse Code communications at Camp Pendleton in California, then in Japan, Laos, and the Philippines. He loved spending time in the natural beauty of his native Minnesota, and was an avid fisherman, owned and operated Fred’s Bait & Tackle. He attended First Baptist Church of Lake Crystal, and served our community as a Sunday school teacher, and as the president of the Lura Lake Aeration Association. He always enjoyed taking fishing and hunting trips with family, and he loved sitting around a fire with family, neighbors and friends, listening to his brother Maurice playing the guitar. He loved gardening and working in the yard, spending lots of time playing with the grandkids, and looked forward to coffee with his buddies every morning at the station. But his favorite way to spend an afternoon was to sit quietly in the backyard swing. Fred bravely fought the battle of cancer these last few months, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his loved ones.
