DELMAR “Bub” L GILREATH, age 91, of Winnebago, died Thursday, November 22, 2012, at Parker Oaks. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012, at 1:00 PM, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago, with Rev. Bob Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Winnebago, MN. Visitation time will be from 4-7:00 PM Sunday, November 25, 2012 , at Spencer Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave SE in Winnebago, and 1 hour before the service at the church. Web tributes may be left at www.spencerowen.com D.L. (Bub) Gilreath was born on November 3rd, 1921 to O.C. and Christine (Lange) Gilreath in Verona Township. Bub attended the country school in the little “Red” school house. He graduated from Winnebago High School in 1940. Bub furthered his education by attending Gustavus Adolphus College and Mankato Teachers College. Bub entered the Navy on July 6th, 1942. He went to school for Signalman’s training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois. He served on the U.S. LST 486 and the U.S. LST 847 in the South Pacific. Bub was awarded 2 Bronze Stars for his role in the invasions of Saipan and the Tinian Islands in the South Pacific. Bub was honorably discharged from the Navy on November 4th, 1945. Bub married Leora Timmerman on September 11th, 1944 at Our Saviors Lutheran of Winnebago. Bub farmed from 1946-1966. Bub worked for the Faribault County Highway Department from 1966 until retiring in 1983. Bub was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Winnebago, serving as an Elder and Trustee. He also was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #82 and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #4580. Bub was also a member of the National LST Association. Bub is survived by his wife, Leora, 2 sons, Randy and his wife Bonnie of North Mankato, Rick of Red Wing, 2 Granddaughters, Jennifer and Fred Dixon, and Michelle and Steve Wiebold, 3 great grandchildren, Payton, Mitchell and Jake, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don Gilreath, and nephew Gary Gilreath.
