Terry William Whitney

Terry W. Whitney, age 57, of rural Delavan, died in Delavan on Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Winnebago United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lura Cemetery, Delavan. Visiting hours will be from noon until 3PM on Sunday at the church. Terry was born November 23, 1953 in Fort Lewis, Washington, the son of William H. and Betty A. (Abbas) Whitney. He was raised and educated in Delavan where he was a 1971 graduate of Delavan High School. He attended South Central Technical College in Mankato where he studied mechanics and welding. Terry was married to Janice A. Sohre on April 12, 1980 at Good Thunder. He was a long time Delavan area farmer, farming with his father and on his own for many years. He felt at home on the farm; it was his favorite place to be. Terry also loved tearing apart and restoring old farm machinery. He was a member of Farm Bureau and enjoyed attending Farm Fest in Morton and Inventors Conferences in Redwood Falls. Terry is survived by his wife, Janice of Delavan, son, Brian of Saint Claire, daughter, Jodie Whitney of Mankato, father, William of Delavan, brother, Tracy (Kay) Whitney of Mapleton, brother, Tom Whitney of Mesa, Arizona, sister, Wendy (Don) Nickel of Kiester, brother-in-law, Art (Pat) Sohre of Lake Crystal, sister-in-law, Linda Wallace of Winnebago, sister-in-law, Donna Sampson of Good Thunder, brother-in-law, Richard (Kathy) Sohre of Good Thunder, sister-in-law, Jolene Schulz of Saint Clair, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother-Betty Whitney , mother& father-in-law, Helen & Merlin Sohre, and brother-in –law, Wayne Sampson.
